Top Five Sources Of News And Information

As a consumer of information,  I have a few specific criteria for what makes a good source of news.  Here is my list of the five sources that I find the best for my wants and needs as a reader.

1. ESPN

As a sports enthusiast, I am always looking to stay up to date and involved in the world of sports.  This makes ESPN the ideal spot for me to get my sports news.  They have in-depth coverage and analysis of everything going on in all kinds of sports across the world, so no matter what I'm looking for, I know I can find it there.  They also have reporters and writers assigned to their own teams, rather than just the leagues as a whole, so I can find articles from differing opinions and compare stances.

2. Winston-Salem Journal

While I may live on the campus of High Point University, my permanent residence is still in Winston-Salem.  The Journal is the perfect source of news for everything going on in and around my hometown.  It has the feel of a large publishing company, but is only focused on one particular city.  The Journal would be higher on my list, but their website has shifted to a paid subscription, and thus I cannot get all of the information that I'd like for free.

3. Bleacher Report

Bleacher Report is a website that is very similar to ESPN, but with a few exceptions.  Bleacher Report is more interested in popular culture than ESPN is, and sometimes that leads them away from actual news.  Nonetheless, B/R often has very strong editorials and it is fun to see what the different beat writers' opinions are on the same events, and it is a very diverse source of information.

4. USA Today

USA Today has been one of the most well known sources of news in America for years, and for good reason.  For the majority of my life, I've been lucky enough that I haven't had to have my nose in politics or national news constantly, and so I don't visit USA Today frequently.  However, when I do want to keep up on what's going on in my country, I go to USA Today because I believe they have the least amount of bias of any news source.

5. Instagram

Instagram is an interesting animal, because anyone can access it.  Unlike the four sources that precede it, Instagram can be accessed by anybody with a cell phone, laptop, or tablet, and that means that your news is automatically less reliable than if it came from a website that only hires paid professionals.  The pro to this though, is that often times when news is broken on social media, it is broken faster than it is on these more reliable websites.
